As a carver of small wooden sculptural objects, netsuke, and ojime, I explore the use of hardwoods and other carvable materials which include amber, mammoth tusk, stag and moose antler. I draw inspiration from the natural world around my rural home and intricately carve the insects, frogs and other creatures among the plants of their environment. My work points out the importance of life one finds in the little things in nature that most of us tend to disregard during our busy lives. I hope to arouse quiet memories in the mind of the viewer. |
